Which Industries are Already Benefitting from BESS?

With the gradual shift to a more renewable way of living, battery energy storage solutions (BESS) are becoming increasingly crucial in many industries as they look to improve efficiency and sustainability. Given the somewhat blindingly obvious fact that BESS plays a relatively major role in the renewable energy industry, this industry won’t be included in this article to focus more on industries that have had to adapt to the changes.

One of the bigger industries that have had to completely revolutionise sectors of this industry to adapt to the introduction of BESS is the transportation industry. With the increasing numbers of EVs on the road in the UK. With the number of EVs in the UK currently sitting just below 4%, BESS plays an influential role in both the production and the running of an EV.

For example, BESS play a crucial role in the development of EV charging infrastructure, allowing for fast charging and better integration with renewable energy sources. The cost of producing BESS has decreased in recent years because of innovation and growing popularity of electric vehicles. EV’s have become more and more appreciated by the consumer as the innovation, particularly with the battery, has progressed. The batteries can store more energy which allows the car to travel further on a single charge, and fast charging systems remove much of the annoyance of having to wait an irritatingly long time for your car to charge.

Along with the transportation industry, a good argument can be made for the manufacturing industry benefiting from the introduction of BESS. Factories get through an eye watering amount of energy through the forms of lights and machinery. BESS manages energy consumption more effectively, allowing costs to be reduced as the energy stored is used during peak demand charges. Manufacturing companies have to work in factories and have to consume a staggering amount of energy to operate. BESS has provided significant savings on electricity bills.

Along with cutting costs, using a BESS provides assurance that there won't be any loss of work due to a power outage, which could seriously damage the company's productivity for the day. Once again, BESS can store energy and use it at a time more beneficial for the consumer. This could potentially save a company hours or days during the year that could have been lost due to power outages.

Due to firms and people being somewhat encouraged to switch to renewable energy, the rise in solar energy has been remarkable. Many commercial and residential buildings have been used in the switch to renewable energy, through the use of solar panels to provide solar energy. Much like factories, building owners will see reduced costs, and the elimination of fearing a power cut due to the energy stored in the BESS.

BESS has changed the game in many industries, and will continue to do so to many more. It is some of the most significant innovation in the last century, and creates so much potential for the future of renewable energy.
